The Church was probably built a few decades before 1641, when, on the occasion of the Archbishop Carafa's pastoral visit, a Church property inventory was made. De Benedictis spouses wanted the construction of the Church: they donated it to the Prince Cesare Miroballo and to his son Giuseppe. In the1771 bill of sale, the property passed from Nicola Miroballo to Giuseppe Donnaperna, the new lord of Pomarico. The "Monte dei Morti" Church is linked to the so-called "maritaggi", a traditional medieval usage consisting in donations to the most respectable young women or to the poorest.
